Vancouver Aquatic Centre Closure: What It Means for iDive Families

An iDive Diving Academy athlete completes a dive during competition.

Dear iDive families,

We want to keep you informed about an important change affecting one of our long-time training homes. As of June 28, 2026, the Vancouver Aquatic Centre (VAC) in downtown Vancouver has closed its doors.

Why is VAC closing?

After more than 50 years of service, the City of Vancouver determined that the aging facility had reached the end of its functional lifespan. Rather than pour money into an aging building, the City is replacing it with a brand-new, modern, and fully accessible aquatic centre on the same site, with demolition and construction expected to begin in late 2026.

The exciting part — especially for divers

Here's the genuinely good news for our sport: the new Vancouver Aquatic Centre will include a dedicated diving tank with multiple board heights, purpose-built for both training and competition — alongside a new 25-metre lap pool, a leisure pool, wellness amenities, and modern accessible change rooms. For a diving academy like ours, a facility designed with diving in mind is a wonderful long-term investment in the sport and in our athletes.

What this means for our programs right now

While the new centre is being built, our programs continue — we've simply adjusted where we train:

  • Pool training has moved to the Hillcrest Aquatic Centre (near Queen Elizabeth Park).

  • Dryland training is now offered at Wayland Sports in Richmond — a great facility with the trampolines, mats, and equipment our divers use to build skills safely on land before taking them to the pool.

Dryland training is a key part of developing strong, confident divers, and Wayland gives our athletes an excellent space to train.

We know facility changes can bring questions, and we're here to help. Our commitment to Building Champions — and to giving every diver the best possible training experience — hasn't changed. Questions about locations, schedules, or registration? Email us at info@idivevancouver.ca.

Thank you for being part of the iDive family. We're excited for what's ahead!
